Is this the same as SEO?
No. SEO is about how your website ranks on Google. Compass North is about what AI assistants say out loud when a customer asks them a question directly, a separate and newer front door that traditional SEO tools don't test at all.
How is this different from just asking ChatGPT myself?
You could, but a snapshot tests many real customer questions across several AI assistants (not just one), records the exact wording of every answer, and compares your position against the specific competitors you name. It turns a handful of one-off checks into an organized report.
Which kinds of businesses do you work with right now?
